The scarab is an ancient Egyptian symbol of renewal and rebirth, the balls of dung they roll to lay their eggs in were seen to represent the progression of the sun through the sky from east to west.

I chose the scarab to create my design as my surname (Chafer) is a species of beetle from the scarab family, so it seemed like the perfect choice!
